The Omicron Upsilon Chapter
Alpha Epsilon Pi has grown rapidly since its refounding in 1999, as the only Jewish fraternity on Ohio's campus. AEPi has been involved both at Ohio University and in the Athens area. The fraternity men participate in homecoming and greek week annually, as well as puts on programming with Hillel, the center for Jewish life. AEPi has also hosted philanthropy events such as Teeter Tottering for breast cancer, grilled cheese sales, and Got Swabbed which have raised money for our national philanthropy as well as locally, with the Athens Humane Society. Our brotherhood is currently 69 members strong!
Alpha Epsilon Pi was established in 1913 at New York University by Charles C. Moskowitz and ten other Jewish men, known as the "Immortal Eleven". Charles Moskowitz was a basketball player who transferred into NYU and was sought after by several fraternities who offered him a bid. Moskowitz asked if several of his Jewish friends could join him and was denied. Upon this rejection, Moskowitz and ten other Jewish men began meeting at a German ratskeller. The Immortal Eleven formed what is today known as Alpha Epsilon Pi and forged its supreme constitution. The NYU chapter that they formed is called 'Alpha' and from henceforth the fraternity grew to 12,500 undergraduate students in 166 chapters. In 2009, the fraternity opened a colony in Israel called 'Aleph' at the Interdisciplinary Center of Herzliya and in the summer of 2012 the fraternity opened its fraternity in Paris, France expanding the presence of AEPi to the United States, Canada, Israel, France and the United Kingdom.
